Cyclometric
The aim of the project is to research, design and test a prototype for a knowledge and decision-making tool. In addition to the project-leading Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO and the cooperating Institute for Human Factors and Technology Management IAT at the University of Stuttgart, numerous other project partners from industry and research are involved. With the help of a tool, product developers will receive interactive and immediate feedback and suggestions for improvement during the design process, which will provide information on the effects of their design decisions (e.g. modularization, choice of materials) on economic and ecological sustainability and recycling aspects. In order to ensure that the results can be transferred to industrial applications, the project consortium will carry out an exemplary component development to accompany the development and evaluation of the tool. The use case will be a lightweight and smart center console trim for a car based on fiber composite material. In particular, the focus is on investigating the sustainability-related trade-off of material selection and component design over several life cycle phases. In addition, an approach adapted to the industry is to be developed, taking into account process-related aspects of product development and decision-making as well as information-oriented aspects.
